Artist Statement

Illumination of time

Again and again I am drawn to one prevailing image—the illumination of a moment in time. I can find it in many places in nature: crumbled seashells pressed to stone, an old fallen stonewall in my backyard, a footprint of a dinosaur, petrified wood or lava rock with smoothed edges by a stream.

And how can I illuminate this event, this moment? How can I illuminate a seemingly insignificant moment in time? Weaving lends itself to highlight time. Each tread I carefully lay down in weaving represents a moment in time. As time passes, cloth grows. As we perceive time in linear fashion, weaving is a linear process. where cloth grows slowly under my fingers.

As I look closely at my environment in my daily life, I want to magnify detail in my work. As I pay attention to seemingly unimportant things around me, I want to pay attention to seemingly unimportant detail in my work.
